Sleep and Rest
The Slowest Declining Need
Sleep decreases more slowly than other stats, but it's still essential. Tired pets become unhappy and eventually dysfunctional.
How Sleep Works
The sleep stat represents energy. It decreases during waking hours as the pet goes about its activities. Some activities drain energy faster than others.
Sleep Levels
Rested
70-100
Full energy
Awake
40-69
Normal
Tired
20-39
Needs rest soon
Exhausted
0-19
Must sleep
Going to Sleep
When the AI determines the pet needs rest:
The sleep action is triggered
The pet lies down
A sleep animation plays (ZZZ symbols)
Sleep stat gradually increases
Other stats continue declining
Sleep continues until the pet is sufficiently rested, typically above 70%.
While Sleeping
Important: sleeping pets cannot be disturbed for normal activities.
When a pet is asleep:
The AI waits patiently
Other actions are paused
Stats continue their natural decline
Only emergencies would warrant waking
The AI knows to wait. Waking a sleeping pet repeatedly would be counterproductive.
Automatic Sleep
Sometimes pets fall asleep on their own when exhausted. This happens without AI intervention - it's a natural response to extreme tiredness.
Energy Drain
Different activities use different amounts of energy:
Normal wandering: Very low drain
Playing games: Moderate drain
School: Moderate drain
Work: Higher drain
The AI considers energy costs when choosing activities. A tired pet might play a quick minigame rather than starting a long work shift.
The Sleep Cycle
A typical sleep cycle looks like:
Pet wakes up with high energy
Activities throughout the day
Energy gradually decreases
Tiredness signals appear
AI puts pet to sleep
Energy restores overnight
Cycle repeats
Night and Day
The game has a day/night cycle. While pets don't need to sleep at night specifically, the timing often works out that way naturally.
Sleep vs Other Needs
Sleep is unique because:
It's the slowest to decline
It requires extended inactivity
Other stats keep dropping while sleeping
It can't be "snacked" like hunger
The AI balances sleep against other needs. A slightly tired pet with low hunger gets fed first. An exhausted pet with moderate hunger sleeps first.
Warning Signs
A tired pet shows signs:
Drooping animations
Sleepy indicators
Slower movement
Eventually just falls asleep
The AI catches these warnings and responds before automatic sleep kicks in.
Rest Duration
How long sleep takes depends on:
How tired the pet was
The sleep restoration rate
When the AI decides to wake up
Typically, sleep sessions last until energy reaches a comfortable level, not necessarily 100%.
